A tangy and slightly sweet chutney that combines the tartness of cranberries with the warmth of apples and spices, perfect for pairing with roasted meats or cheeses.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, diced apples, and chopped onion.
  2. Add the liquids and spices: Stir in the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, water, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, allspice, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook the chutney: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries should burst, and the apples should soften, creating a thick, jam-like consistency.
  4. Add raisins (optional): If using, stir in the golden raisins during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
  5. Cool and serve: Remove the chutney from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Enjoy your chutney with roasted turkey, pork, or as part of a cheese board!
