- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 8 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 4-6 oval patties.
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook for 5-7 minutes, until softened and slightly caramelized. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for another 5-7 minutes, until softened and browned.
- Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and 1/4 cup cold water until smooth. Pour the mixture into the skillet and whisk constantly until the gravy has thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for another 5-7 minutes, until the patties are cooked through and the gravy has thickened.
- Serve the Salisbury Steaks with the mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
