I love a good face mask but I don’t love the prices of face masks. This is one of my favorite DIY face masks to make because it only has three ingredients, it gives my skin that list from within look, and I’m saving a LOT of money!
I generally use this turmeric face mask about once a week.
The Wonders of Turmeric for Skin Health
Turmeric, a bright yellow-orange spice related to ginger, has been linked to numerous health benefits, particularly for the skin. Its main active component, curcumin, is a bioactive substance with potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
According to Healthline, “Turmeric’s health benefits stem from curcumin, a bioactive component with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Scientists are also studying its potentially positive impact on the skin.”
Here are some of the ways a turmeric face mask can benefit your skin:
1. Enhances Skin Glow and Luster
Turmeric’s antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components can provide a natural glow and luster to your skin. Regular application of a turmeric face mask can help revive your skin and bring out its natural glow. A simple DIY mask can be made by mixing small amounts of Greek yogurt, honey, and turmeric together and applying it to your face.
2. Accelerates Wound Healing
The curcumin in turmeric can help wounds heal more quickly by decreasing inflammation and oxidation. It also lowers the body’s response to cutaneous wounds, positively affecting tissue and collagen. This makes turmeric a beneficial ingredient for skin wound treatment.
3. Helps Control Psoriasis Flares
Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory qualities may help control flares and other symptoms of psoriasis. It can be used as a supplement or added to food, but it’s recommended to discuss the proper dosage with a professional before trying it.
4. Reduces Acne and Scarring
A turmeric face mask can help reduce acne and any resulting scars due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric targets your pores and calms the skin, and it’s also known to reduce scarring. This combination of uses may help your face clear up from acne breakouts.
5. Potential Treatment for Other Skin Conditions
While more research is needed, it’s suggested that turmeric can help with eczema, alopecia, lichen planus, and other skin issues. Interest in studying turmeric as a skin treatment is increasing.
However, it’s important to note that turmeric has a low bioavailability, meaning your metabolism burns it off quickly, and your body doesn’t absorb much. Also, when applied to the skin, turmeric can temporarily stain the skin or leave a yellow residue. It’s recommended to test turmeric on your forearm and wait 24 to 48 hours to see if you react before using it on your face.
Always consult with a professional before starting any new skin treatment.

After rinsing off the mask, apply your favorite moisturizer.
Notes
Please note: Turmeric can stain your skin and clothes, so be careful when applying and removing the mask. Also, if you have sensitive skin, it’s a good idea to do a patch test first to make sure you don’t have an adverse reaction to the mask.
